Bought a car in Germany for use in Finland, or sending one the other way? We collect it at the door and deliver it in 3–4 days: no customs inside the EU, CMR insured and GPS tracked all the way.
In short: Hert transports cars from Germany to Finland and back in 3–4 days door to door (Berlin – Tallinn ≈ 1,530 km + 2 h ferry to Helsinki). There is no customs clearance between EU countries; in Finland, the car must be declared for Finnish car tax (autovero) and pass a registration inspection before it can be registered.
Germany is Europe’s largest used-car market, with over six million used cars changing owner every year, and one of the main sources of imported cars in the Nordic countries.
We usually carry the car through Poland and the Baltics to Tallinn and across on the Tallinn–Helsinki ferry, or on the direct Travemünde–Helsinki ferry. The final legs through the Baltics and across to Helsinki are Hert’s home corridor: we have run them from our base in Tartu since 1994. Where possible we combine cars into shared loads to keep the price per car down.
A car brought to Finland for permanent use must be declared for car tax (autovero) to the Finnish Tax Administration (Vero) before it is used on Finnish roads, and it must pass a registration inspection (rekisteröintikatsastus) before it is registered with Traficom. Car tax depends on the car’s value and CO₂ emissions. New vehicles (under 6 months old or under 6,000 km) are also subject to Finnish VAT. No customs duty applies between EU countries.
When a Finnish-registered car is exported permanently, it is removed from the Finnish vehicle register, and part of the car tax may be refunded by Vero (autoveron palautus), depending on the car’s age and value. Our CMR consignment note documents the transport out of Finland. The new owner then registers the car in Germany under local rules.
Send the details through the quote form and we confirm the price and schedule within 1 working day.
Once you confirm, the car is collected on the agreed date, tracked via the logist.it platform and delivered with a CMR consignment note. Every transport runs under the CMR Convention with Hert’s freight liability insurance (all-risk cover on request), our operations are ISO 9001 certified, and Hert has moved vehicles across Europe since 1994.
Typically 3–4 days door to door, depending on the pickup location and whether the car joins a shared load. We usually carry the car through Poland and the Baltics to Tallinn and across on the Tallinn–Helsinki ferry, or on the direct Travemünde–Helsinki ferry.
No. Both are EU member states, so there is no customs clearance or customs duty. The car travels with its registration documents and a CMR consignment note issued by Hert.
Finnish car tax (autovero), declared to Vero and based on the car’s value and CO₂ emissions, plus the registration inspection fee. Finnish VAT applies only if the car counts as new (under 6 months or under 6,000 km).
Yes, we run this route in both directions. For exports from Finland, part of the Finnish car tax may be refunded when the car leaves Finland permanently (autoveron palautus).
Yes. We transport single vehicles as well as multi-vehicle loads. The price per vehicle depends on the route, the vehicle size and whether it can join a shared load.
Updated October 2026. Tax and registration rules change, so check the current rules with Vero (Finnish Tax Administration) – car tax, Traficom – vehicle registration.
We respond within 1 working day. No obligation.
