Bought a car in Germany for use in Denmark, or sending one the other way? We collect it at the door and deliver it in 1–2 days: no customs inside the EU, CMR insured and GPS tracked all the way.
In short: Hert transports cars from Germany to Denmark and back in 1–2 days door to door (Hamburg – Copenhagen ≈ 470 km). There is no customs clearance between EU countries; in Denmark, the car must pass a registration inspection and Danish registration tax (registreringsafgift) must be paid before it can be registered.
Germany is Europe’s largest used-car market, with over six million used cars changing owner every year, and one of the main sources of imported cars in the Nordic countries.
We usually carry the car from Hamburg along the A7/E45 through Jutland, or via the Puttgarden–Rødby ferry. Where possible we combine cars into shared loads to keep the price per car down.
To register a used car from another EU country in Denmark, the car must pass a registration inspection (registreringssyn, often called toldsyn) at an approved inspection centre, and Danish registration tax (registreringsafgift) is paid to Motorstyrelsen, the Danish Motor Vehicle Agency, before plates are issued. The tax is based on the car’s value and CO₂ emissions, so it is worth calculating before you buy. If the car counts as new for VAT purposes (under 6 months old or under 6,000 km), Danish VAT is paid in Denmark. No customs duty applies between EU countries.
When a Danish-registered car is exported permanently, it is deregistered in Denmark and, if the car qualifies, part of the registration tax can be refunded through Motorstyrelsen (eksportgodtgørelse). Our CMR consignment note documents the transport out of Denmark. The new owner then registers the car in Germany under local rules.
Send the details through the quote form and we confirm the price and schedule within 1 working day.
Once you confirm, the car is collected on the agreed date, tracked via the logist.it platform and delivered with a CMR consignment note. Every transport runs under the CMR Convention with Hert’s freight liability insurance (all-risk cover on request), our operations are ISO 9001 certified, and Hert has moved vehicles across Europe since 1994.
Typically 1–2 days door to door, depending on the pickup location and whether the car joins a shared load. We usually carry the car from Hamburg along the A7/E45 through Jutland, or via the Puttgarden–Rødby ferry.
No. Both are EU member states, so there is no customs clearance or customs duty. The car travels with its registration documents and a CMR consignment note issued by Hert.
Danish registration tax (registreringsafgift), calculated by Motorstyrelsen from the car’s value and CO₂ emissions, plus the registration inspection fee. Danish VAT applies only if the car counts as new (under 6 months or under 6,000 km).
Yes, we run this route in both directions. For exports from Denmark, part of the Danish registration tax may be refunded when the car leaves Denmark permanently (eksportgodtgørelse).
Yes. We transport single vehicles as well as multi-vehicle loads. The price per vehicle depends on the route, the vehicle size and whether it can join a shared load.
Updated October 2026. Tax and registration rules change, so check the current rules with Motorstyrelsen (Danish Motor Vehicle Agency).
